Last year was a fantastic year for #TheDirtyGym.
Working long hours with our coaches, trainers and Club members -- our local training clientele doubled, our competition team gathered an impressive array of hardware and our athletes set numerous American Records across multiple sports. We built some amazing partnerships over 2013, and offered some of the best athletic Clinics, Seminars and Events that the Dayton area has ever seen.
However, my athletic career in 2013 was a wash. Which as a Coach of athletes and a long time competitor -- is a hard pill to swallow. Spending an entire year without much to show physically can feel pretty shameful. For me it was a year of personal anguish as I bounced from one setback to the next: Spinal TLJ Fracture, Dislocated Collarbone, Food Poisoning with the loss of 15 Lbs of Lean Bodyweight, Compound Hip Issues and PFPS in both Knees...
I ended the year with some amazing Professional kudos for our Club -- but some of the weakest baseline numbers I have put up in recent memory:
- Bodyweight / LBM (est.): 185# / 88%
- Squat / Bench / Deadlift / Total: 435# / 290# / 535# / 1260#
- Snatch / Clean & Jerk: 95K / 125K
- Overhead Press: 185#
"Back-Abs" Will be Back.
Gotta give a shout to those familiar with my monicker around the gym, "Back-Abs" will be back in 2014 and I plan to accomplish four things this year:
- Push back into the 198# Weightclass (Not Just Weight, but Lean, Mobile and Robust)
- 1500# Powerlifting Total with a 500# Squat, 350# Bench and 600# Deadlift
- Compete in my first Lightweight Strongman Show
- Compete in my first Bodybuilding Show
This year will be very different. Over the past few months I've restructured everything in my life that was holding me back last year. I've gathered some new blood training partners around, built some flexible programming, and even better adaptive nutrition planning.
I am already months deep into the new regimen and have made some major progress towards turning 2014 as far from 2013 as it could be.
As I write this log, I plan to irresponsibly dump more info out there on what I'm doing than I should. But hell, no one will read this, or would copy it well enough anyways :)
